The Scar He Could Never Forget. The Woman He Was Never Supposed to Find.

Sent flowers every year to Saint Catherine’s cemetery without anyone knowing.

But darkness still surrounded him.

One evening, Emma overheard two bodyguards discussing a name that chilled her blood.

Father Benedict.

The priest who ran Saint Catherine’s orphanage.

The same priest who supposedly died in the fire.

Emma confronted Alessandro immediately.

“He’s alive,” Alessandro admitted grimly.

“And he’s been hiding for fifteen years.”

“Why?”

“Because he sold children.”

The room spun around Emma.

Father Benedict had secretly trafficked children through wealthy adoption networks tied to powerful men—including politicians, businessmen, and organized crime figures.

The fire happened after one child discovered records proving everything.

“She found documents hidden in his office,” Alessandro said.

“That’s why they killed everyone.”

Emma’s eyes filled with tears.

“No,” Alessandro whispered.

“Not everyone.”

Then came the knock at the door.

One of the guards entered, pale-faced.

“She’s here.”

Alessandro stood instantly.

“Who’s here?”

The guard swallowed hard.

“Valentina.”

Part 4: The Woman in the Shadows

Emma’s entire body trembled as the woman stepped into the room.

Older.

Thinner.

A scar crossing one cheek.

But unmistakably Val.

For one endless second, neither woman moved.

Then Emma burst into tears and threw herself into Val’s arms.

The years collapsed instantly.

Val held her tightly, shaking with emotion.

“I thought you were dead,” she whispered.

Emma could barely breathe.

“I thought the same about you.”

But joy quickly turned to horror.

Val explained everything.

The fire had been started deliberately after she stole evidence exposing Father Benedict’s trafficking network.

Sofia helped Val escape through the basement tunnels beneath the orphanage, but Sofia died helping the younger children.

Val spent years hiding under different identities while collecting evidence against the men responsible.

Then came the final revelation.

Vittorio Moretti had financed the trafficking ring.

Alessandro looked physically sick hearing it aloud.

“My father ordered the fire,” he whispered.

Emma stared at him in shock.

Every terrible story about the Moretti family suddenly felt true.

Val slowly turned toward Alessandro.

“You didn’t know.”

“No.”

“But now you do.”

The silence became unbearable.

Then Val pulled a gun from her coat.

The bodyguards reacted instantly, but Alessandro raised his hand to stop them.

Val’s eyes burned with fifteen years of grief.

“I came here to kill a Moretti,” she said.

Emma stepped between them immediately.

“Val, don’t.”

“You know what his family did!”

“Yes,” Emma cried.

“But he’s not his father.”

Val’s hands trembled violently.

Tears streamed down her face as years of hatred collided with confusion.

Then gunshots exploded downstairs.

Everyone froze.

Another guard burst into the room bleeding heavily from the shoulder.

“They found us,” he gasped.

“Vittorio’s men are here.”

Alessandro’s face darkened instantly.

“My father knows about Emma.”

“What does that mean?” Emma whispered.

Alessandro looked directly at her.

“It means you were never adopted randomly.”

The room went silent.

Then he delivered the truth that destroyed everything.

“Your adoptive father worked for Vittorio.”

Emma felt the floor disappear beneath her feet.
